Please join the Detroit Bar Association to hear from Isaiah McKinnon, retired Chief of Police of the Detroit Police Department, retired associate professor of education at University of Detroit Mercy and former Deputy Mayor for the City of Detroit at this complimentary webinar.

The relationship between the community and the police is fundamentally changing. Departments should be at the forefront of a transformative model of public safety, for all possible outcomes, including “defunding” the police. Chief McKinnon notes that the arrest of Derek Chauvin and three other Minneapolis police officers for the murder of George Floyd is a move in the right direction. However, as hundreds of thousands of people around the world demand accountability, now is the time for a meaningful change. This presentation will draw upon personal experience and observations from over a half-century of policing to explore various options and opportunities for police to gain the trust of all community members.
