Session #14: Serving the Community in Observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

The Diversity & Inclusion and Access to Justice/Pro Bono Committees of the Detroit Bar Association invite you to attend the pre-MLK Day webinar. We will be joined by several community service providers describing volunteer needs and opportunities enabling you to observe the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day ON THE 16th OR OTHER DAYS DURING THE YEAR.  

Presenters:

  • Lakeshore Legal Aid - not-for-profit law firm providing a range of free civil legal services to people who are low income, seniors, and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in our communities.
  • Wayne County Dispute Resolution Center - the community dispute resolution center solving problems, empowering people, restoring relationships.
  • Ruth Ellis Center - creating opportunities with LGBTQ+ young people to build their vision for a positive future.
  • International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit - working with low-income and foreign populations in an effort to establish a more inclusive, equitable and just society.
  • Michigan Immigrant Rights Center - is a legal resource center for Michigan's immigrant communities focused on direct legal services (including pro bono), systemic advocacy, and community education/engagement. 
  • UDM Federal Pro SE Legal Assistance Clinic – Mercy Law Veterans Clinic- providing limited scope legal assistance to indigent and low-income non-prisoner pro se litigants

Moderator:

  • John Sier, Chair, Detroit Bar Association Foundation Access to Justice Committee 

Attendees will be entered into a drawing to win lunch with Hon. Patricia Perez Fresard, Chief Judge, as part of her Call to Pro Bono Service

Attend and receive a Certificate of Completion Approved for State Bar of Michigan Pro Bono Honor Roll hours

Training hours can be put toward the Detroit Bar Pro Bono award with recognition at the annual Archer Award Gala in November.
